Toronto is home to many mosques and even fewer Islamic Centres. There resided a great need to establish a community centre in the heart of downtown Toronto. Seeing this need, in 2010, a group of brothers along with assistance and support from the local community were able to rent a 2,000 Sq feet unit. This was the beginning of Toronto Islamic Centre (TIC). As word spread of this community centre so did people wanting to be part of this community. Meanwhile, there was a thirst for from the average Canadian for a new way to live their lives, and they found it in Islam. Alhamdulillah TIC was able to provide the resources and guidance for many people to accept Islam. As the community grew so did it’s needs. This was the case for the past 9 years. In March of 2019 the community was informed by the Landlord that they would not renew their lease and we needed to find a new place. Seeing the great success and fear of losing this place of worship the community banded together to move to a bigger and better location. In April of 2019 TIC and it’s community members moved just 800m north to a 9,0030 sq feet building, situated at 817 Yonge Street, the main street in the city of Toronto. This has been the dream of the community for many years – to establish a permanent facility for Islam and its future in Canada, in the heart of Canada’s largest city. With the mercy of Allah, and once again the support from the community the need has once again been fulfilled. However, learning from our past the community along with the board is trying its best to make 817 Yonge St. the permanent home of the Toronto Islamic Centre.
